Permanent | Part time (21 hours per week)
Salary: £14,768
We are recruiting a Grounds Maintenance Operative to join our Facilities Management team at HMP Durham.
You’ll work 3 full days per week (07:30–16:00) – ideally Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with flexibility to agree days.
What you’ll typically be doing:
- Grass cutting, hedge trimming, weed control and general grounds upkeep
- Planting, pruning, seeding and basic tree care
- Leaf, litter and verge clearance
- Setting out and maintaining sports pitches
- Drainage works and equipment painting
- Using light plant, power tools and garden machinery
What we’re looking for:
- Experience in grounds maintenance, gardening or horticulture
- Understanding of health & safety
- Comfortable working in a prison environment
- Spraying certification (or willingness to be trained)
- Full UK driving licence – desirable
Prison security clearance (incl. Standard DBS) is required – full support provided by Amey.
